Reef House Eco-friendly Policy
Although there is
no established definition of Eco-friendly Policy,
we have formulated our own, which we feel
encapsulates the principles of eco-tourism and
environmental issues.
Environmentally Responsible
We encourage
holiday-makers to behave in an environmentally
responsible way. Reef House has harnessed the
wonders of an unspoiled and remote tropical
paradise. Natural resources abound
-
Crystal-clear
reef waters with unmatched spectacular coral and
ocean life, ideal for unobtrusive snorkeling
-
Nature,
Wildlife and Cultural Photography, a stunning
bonanza!
-
Windsurfers,
canoes, kayaks, row-boats, long-boat trips to
Malolo Island (optional visit to Solevu
Village), volley ball, petanque, nature walks,
hiking, jogging trails and beachcombing
and so on.
-
And much
more, limited only by your imagination
These resources
surround the house or are an easy ( and
nonpolluting) walk away.
A
Family/Private Retreat
Reef House itself
is a family/private retreat that
-
Is constructed
of all local indigenous woods. You can prepare
your food in our fully equipped kitchen or enjoy
the lovely garden view off our twenty by fifty
foot outdoor deck while using the outdoor gas
barbecue -
Rain
water is collected from the roof and
available for guests drinking. -
All waste
water is collected and not allowed to get
out into the ocean. -
Fruit is grown on the
property for guests eating. -
Gardens on the
island supply vegetables, that can be
purchased on the island. -
Entertainment (weekly) is performed
by the local staff and villages and money in
given to their social club for their efforts -
Allows
swimming out from the house (only possible
around high tide, but there is good swimming and
snorkeling out from the island bar at all
tides). -
Enjoys large
grounds with your own tropical fruit trees
(banana, paw paw and coconut) which you are
welcome to pick and eat.
Local
employment
-
We employ local
people and prevent exploitation and benefit the
local economy by preventing leakages of the revenue
acquired through tourism.
-
We use
local services such as
builders/electricians/plumbers for the
maintenance of the property. Recent
renovations continued our policy of using
tradesman from the island
-
We
support the local community by employing
locals, using only local facilities,
injecting resources into local industry by
virtue of our tenants using the local
resort.
-
We
encourage our guests to visit local
attractions, eat in local restaurants and by
local produce. We also encourage our guests
to use public transport or local services.
Reef House is owned independently from our
neighboring resort (MCR). To avoid
duplication and for your enjoyment you can
use all their
amenities
, many
free of charge, but have the privacy of a
secluded retreat. They include Boutique,
Video Room, Marina and Yacht Harbor and 2
swimming pools. Extensive choice of water
activities as well as a yacht charter and
game fishing base PADI Gold Palm Resort
Facility. Walking and jogging trails, Beach
Volleyball, Musket Cove Yacht Club, host and
organizer of the annual Fiji Regatta Week,
Musket to Port Vila Race currently with over
8,000 lifetime members all over the world.
Conference facilities - seating 30-40
auditorium style.
Entertainment (weekly) is performed by the
local staff and villages and money in given
to their social club for their efforts
Local Fijians
staff the home and leave you to relax...as one
satisfied client recently said "The staff who
service the house were an unexpected bonus: Enoki
the groundskeeper became fast friends with my
18-month-old on the first day and proceeded to take
him for a ride in the wheelbarrow every morning
after that, and the lovely maid, Vukei was very
helpful and even left a gift of spa soap for the
baby one day." (Amanda, Steve and James Hayes,
Melbourne, VIC, Australia)
